The Autumn Skin Reset

Why September Is the Perfect Time to Invest in Your Skin
Summer may be winding down, but for our skin, the effects of the season can often become more noticeable just as we head into autumn.
Months of increased UV exposure, warmer temperatures, holidays, air conditioning and changes to our usual routines can leave skin feeling very different by September. You might notice pigmentation appearing more prominently, increased dryness or dehydration, uneven texture, congestion or simply that your skin has lost some of its usual glow.
That’s why September is one of our favourite times of year at Harmony for skin treatments.
Throughout summer, our focus is largely on protecting and maintaining the skin. As we move into autumn, we can begin to shift that focus towards repairing, renewing and strengthening it.
What Has Summer Done to Your Skin?
Even when you’re diligent with SPF, increased sun exposure can have an impact beneath the surface of the skin.
UV exposure contributes to oxidative stress and can affect collagen and elastin, while also triggering increased melanin production. This is why freckles, sun spots and areas of pigmentation can suddenly appear darker or more noticeable towards the end of summer.
At the same time, heat, travel, swimming, air conditioning and heavier SPF use can leave some complexions dehydrated, congested or more sensitive than usual.
The important thing is not to immediately reach for every active ingredient in your bathroom.
September is about understanding what your skin actually needs now and gradually introducing the right products and treatments to help restore balance.
Repair First, Then Renew
When skin is dehydrated or its barrier has been compromised, our first priority is often restoring hydration and supporting healthy skin function.
Treatments such as Hydrafacial can be a brilliant starting point after summer, particularly for skin that feels dull, congested or thirsty. Deep cleansing, exfoliation and hydration can help refresh the complexion without immediately jumping into more intensive resurfacing treatments.
It’s also a great time to reassess your home skincare routine. Antioxidants, hydration, barrier-supporting ingredients and, importantly, your daily SPF should remain part of your routine throughout autumn.
Because although summer might be ending, SPF season NEVER does.
Autumn Opens the Door to More Advanced Treatments
Once the skin is healthy, hydrated and ready, autumn gives us the opportunity to begin working more intensively on specific concerns.
For some clients, that might mean microneedling to support collagen production and improve the appearance of texture, pores and pigmentation.
For others, Cellstory may be recommended as part of a regenerative skin programme, particularly when the goal is to improve overall skin quality, brightness and renewal.
And for clients concerned about sun damage or pigmentation, September is an ideal time to have the skin professionally assessed so we can recommend the most appropriate course of action.
This is where personalised treatment planning becomes so important. Two people may both describe their skin as “sun damaged”, but what we see within the skin and therefore how we treat it, can be completely different.
Don’t Forget About Your Body
An autumn reset doesn’t have to stop at your skincare routine. After a summer of holidays, meals out, disrupted routines and perhaps a little less consistency than usual, September often brings that familiar feeling of wanting to get back into a routine.
Treatments such as LPG Endermologie can complement this seasonal reset by supporting circulation, lymphatic drainage and the appearance and quality of the skin.
It’s not about undoing your summer or punishing yourself for enjoying it. It’s simply about getting back to the habits and routines that make you feel good.
You Need a Plan
One of the biggest advantages of starting your skin journey in September is time. Collagen stimulation, pigmentation management and improvements in skin quality don’t happen overnight. Starting now gives us the opportunity to create a considered treatment programme over the coming months, rather than trying to achieve everything immediately before Christmas, a wedding or another special occasion.
We can assess where your skin is following summer, restore what it needs now and create a plan for where you’d like it to be over the coming months.
Introducing The Harmony Autumn Edit
To make starting that journey a little easier, throughout September we’ve created The Harmony Autumn Edit - three carefully selected treatment programmes, each designed around a different post-summer skin goal.
Whether you’d like to improve texture and pigmentation, restore lift and definition, or replenish hydration and glow, there’s an Autumn Edit designed to help you focus on exactly what your skin needs next.
Three programmes. Three skin goals. Your autumn skin reset.
